Terms of service

1. About these terms

LiveKhutbah ("we", "the service") shows a speaker's words live on people's phones and screens, as captions or translated. These terms apply to everyone who creates an account or uses the service for an organization. By creating an account (the box on the form in the app), you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you use the service for an organization, you confirm that you may act for it.

People who only read a session through a QR code or a link do not need an account. These terms do not ask anything of them.

2. Accounts and organizations

• You sign in with your email address (a one-time code) or a passkey. Keep access to your email and devices safe: anyone who can sign in as you can act for your organization.
• Give accurate details for your organization and keep them up to date.
• An organization's owners and admins decide who else can use it, and are responsible for what its members do in it.
• Free credits for testing are given once per person, for their first organization. Creating extra accounts to collect more is not allowed.

3. Credits, plans and payments

• The service is paid for with credits. Prices are shown on our website and in the app, in US dollars. A live session uses credits per minute of speech, depending on the number of languages; silence is free.
• Credits you buy do not expire. Credits from a monthly or yearly plan are given each month and expire at the next renewal.
• Plans renew automatically until you cancel them. You can change or cancel a plan at any time; the change takes effect at the next renewal.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. When you pay, your card is saved so that it can pay a balance below zero right after a session.
• With a saved card, a live session can continue until the balance reaches $5 below zero; the card is then charged for what was used. Without a saved card, a session stops when the credits run out. If a charge fails, the balance stays below zero until the next purchase, and you cannot go live until it is above zero.
• Free credits (for testing, or from an invitation) have no cash value and cannot be exchanged or refunded.
• Purchases are final, except where the law requires otherwise. If a session failed because of a problem on our side, write to us and we will give the credits back.

4. Acceptable use

You may use the service for khutbahs, lessons, talks and events. You may not use it:

• to broadcast content that is unlawful, or that incites hatred or violence against anyone;
• to record or broadcast someone who has not agreed to it: tell your speakers that their words are shown live and kept as text;
• to overload, attack, copy or get around the limits of the service, or to resell it without our written agreement.

We may suspend an organization or an account that breaks these rules, and will tell it why unless the law prevents us.

5. How translations are made

The speaker's words are turned into captions and translations automatically, live, by speech recognition and AI translation. They can contain mistakes, for example in names or in hadith.

Quran verses are handled differently. When the speaker quotes the Quran, the app recognizes the verse and shows an approved translation of the part quoted.

6. Your content

What is said in your sessions, and its text, belongs to your organization or its speakers. You give us the right to process it to run the service: to transcribe, translate, read aloud, store and show it to the people you choose (the session's visibility and access settings). The session's audio is not stored. Your organization can remove a session at any time. We process the personal data in sessions on your organization's behalf, as described in the privacy policy.

7. Availability

We work to keep the service running, but it depends on internet connections, devices and outside providers, and it can be interrupted. We do not guarantee that it will always be available or free of errors. We may change or improve features; if we remove something important you pay for, we will tell you in advance.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability to an organization is limited to the amount it paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Ending

You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your account (sam@livekhutbah.com). You can download your data from the app at any time ("Download my data", at the bottom of each page). If we close the service, we will tell organizations at least 30 days before and refund purchased credits that were not used.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The "Last updated" date above shows the latest version. For important changes, we will tell organizations by email. Using the service after a change means you accept the new terms.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the United States. Before going to court, write to us: most problems can be solved quickly. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the law of the country where you live.
